On the first day of the dig, Austin (and his dog Dot, last picture) found the humerus bone of a suspected second mammoth less than 100 yards from the original site. Part of the site protection strategy involved draining water away from the original site. As the 4th picture below shows, Austin and Dot spotted the bone lying in the watering hole as it was being drained. Paleontologist Mark Goodwin suspects this is a bone from a second mammoth.
